Galangin Introduction

Galangin is a flavonol, a type of flavonoid. It is found in high concentrations in Alpinia officinarum and Helichrysum aureonitens. It is also found in the galangal rhizome and in propolis. Galangin has been proved to have in vitro antibacterial and antiviral activity. Flavonol also inhibits the growth of breast tumor cells in vitro.

Galangin has been shown to have antiviral, antidiabetic, and anticancer effects. Galangin ranges from a floral, cinnamon, honey-like flavor to a more pungent, peppery, ginger-like taste.

Galangin features chemical protective effects (anti-teratogenic, anti-mutation), antiviral, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer effects.
