Description

Magnesium Sulfate Heptahydrate Introduction

Magnesium Sulfate Heptahydrate is a kind of white crystalline powder with a chemical formula of MgSO4 · 7H2O. It is odorless, salty, and bitter. It is easily soluble in water (119.8%, 20°C), slowly soluble in glycerin, and slightly soluble in ethanol, and the aqueous solution is neutral. It is used as a nutrition fortifier (magnesium fortifier), curing agent, flavor enhancer, and processing aid. It improves the fermentation capacity, improves the flavor of synthetic sake (0.003%), and adjusts the hardness of the water.

Magnesium sulfate heptahydrate is a hydrate that is the heptahydrate form of magnesium sulfate. It has a role as a laxative and cathartic. It is a magnesium salt and a hydrate. It contains magnesium sulfate.

Magnesium Sulfate Heptahydrate Application

    • Agriculture: Used as a fertilizer, magnesium sulfate heptahydrate provides magnesium and sulfur to plants, essential nutrients that aid in chlorophyll production and protein synthesis.
    • Medicine:
      • Commonly used as a laxative, it is administered orally to relieve constipation.
      • Used in soaking solutions (Epsom salt baths) to relieve muscle pain, reduce inflammation, and promote relaxation.
      • Administered intravenously to treat eclampsia and preeclampsia in pregnant women.
      • Also used for the treatment of magnesium deficiency.

    • Chemical Industry: Serves as a drying agent in organic synthesis due to its high affinity for water.

    • Construction: Used in cement and construction materials to enhance stability and durability.
